OPPO Find X8 series finally gets a release date
Just a heads up, if you buy something through our links, we may get a small share of the sale. It’s one of the ways we keep the lights on here. Click here for more. OPPO has finally decided the release date for the next generation flagship smartphones, the Find X8 series. Over the past few weeks, OPPO has been teasing the Find X8 line, offering us a sneak peek at the improvements over the previous generation flagship.  The company has now officially announced that it will debut the Find X8 series devices later this month. Let’s check out the release details of the OPPO Find X8 series.  OPPO Find X8 series is launching next month  OPPO announced on Weibo that the Find X8 series launch event will take place in China on October 24. The company has also revealed that the devices will use MediaTek’s flagship Dimensity 9400 chipset. Image: OPPO Weibo Although the post provides no other information about the devices, OPPO has previously hinted that the Find X8 will feature a flat display with thin bezels. However, word on the internet is that the Find X8 Pro will feature a curved display instead. Both models are also rumored to use OPPO’s new Glacier Battery technology, which provides higher capacity in the same size as a lithium-ion battery. Moreover, the Find X8 series is reportedly said to support magnetic attachments like a magnetic power bank and a 30W wireless charging pad. It will have 10x zoom cameras.  Besides likely going on sale in China shortly after their launch, OPPO has already revealed its plans to bring the phones in Europe as well. However, the company has yet to provide a date for a wider release. While OPPO is unveiling the Find X8 series later this month, the Find X8 Ultra won’t be joining them. However, rumors say that the device will arrive somewhere between January and March. OPPO is also expected to reveal the Find N5, a foldable device that will replace the Find N3 by March next year. Going by the previous trend, the Find N5 will come as the OnePlus Open 2 to global markets, which is expected to happen in Q1 2025. Are you excited for the OPPO Find X8 series? Are you looking forward to buying one? Let’s discuss more in the comments, down below, or reach our to us via Twitter and Facebook.

Circle to Search update quietly removes the Google Lens shortcut
Just a heads up, if you buy something through our links, we may get a small share of the sale. It’s one of the ways we keep the lights on here. Click here for more. Google’s Circle to Search is a useful tool if you want to quickly find information on whatever is on your screen. After a recent upgrade, however, Google discreetly stripped the Lens shortcut from Circle to Search. Before the update, Circle to Search made it simple to activate Lens with a few touches, but now you will need to use the traditional way. It is unclear if this was done on purpose or simply a bug that will be fixed in the future. Goodbye, Google Lens shortcut 9to5Google was the first to notice this revised search bar without the Lens shortcut, and it’s already widely spread, including on Pixel smartphones. However, Pixel device owners won’t be too disappointed because the stock launcher has a search box at the bottom of the home screen with the same options, including the Lens shortcut, a microphone shortcut for voice search, and the G logo to launch the Google app. Image: 9to5Google However, this exclusion will irritate non-Pixel owners a lot, especially since Circle to Search has always provided the fastest way to activate Lens. Adding a Lens shortcut or the standalone Lens app on your home screen can fix this issue, though. However, you can no longer have quick access to Google Lens after this update. It’s unknown why the company removed the shortcut from the feature, but Google could be trying to tidy up the UI so it seems less cluttered. Since this change has now been widely implemented, you shouldn’t see the Google Lens shortcut the next time you use Circle to Search. Because Google hasn’t stated why it is making this change, it’s difficult to determine whether it is purposeful or simply a bug that will be fixed in the future. There is currently no way to restore the original Google Lens shortcut. What do you think about this move from Google? Were you using the shortcut regularly until it was removed? Frustrated? Mildly annoyed? Indifferent? Sound off in the comments down below or ping us on our Twitter or Facebook.

Apple may launch Vision glasses and AirPods with cameras
Just a heads up, if you buy something through our links, we may get a small share of the sale. It’s one of the ways we keep the lights on here. Click here for more. Apple launched its first AR/VR headset, the Apple Vision Pro, in early 2024, and a new report suggests the company is developing more vision-based products, which won’t see the light of day until 2027 if they get launched at all.  The report comes from reputed Apple analyst Mark Gurman, who reveals in his weekly Power On newsletter that Apple is developing smart glasses in collaboration with Ray-Ban and AirPods with cameras.  According to the report, Apple aims to salvage its multi-billion dollar R&D investment in Vision Pro’s visual intelligence as much as possible.  They are trying to do so by bringing the technology to more products. We have already seen the company enacting this plan with the announcement of visual intelligence alongside the iPhone 16’s camera control.   The next step seems to be to introduce them to the company’s smart glasses, which it is apparently developing.  The glasses reportedly wouldn’t be AR glasses with displays but smart glasses with built-in cameras, speakers, and mics, similar to Meta’s Ray-Ban glasses. Currently, Meta’s Ray-Ban glasses cost $299. However, you have the option to choose more expensive frames.  Although the report doesn’t mention it, we are pretty sure that if Apple’s smart glasses become a reality, they will definitely fetch a higher price tag.  AirPods with Cameras are still in the game – not sure why Image: KnowTechie A few months ago, Gurman revealed that Apple was tinkering with different types of wearables to add to its future product line, including AirPods featuring cameras.  According to the latest report, the development is ongoing. However, the famed Apple analyst is uncertain why these AirPods with Cameras would be an appealing product line instead of smart glasses.  While we agree with Gurman that AirPods with cameras facing outward are not a good idea, Apple is still experimenting with the form factor to add visual intelligence features. Are you looking forward to these Meta-style AR glasses from Apple? Would you buy a pair if they make it? Tell us what you want from these glasses below in the comments, or ping us on our Twitter or Facebook.

A common question among users is, does Spotify download songs in the background? Well, the good news is that, yes, it does, but only while you’re using the app; Spotify manages downloads efficiently so you can enjoy uninterrupted music. To explain further, due to iOS restrictions and Spotify’s current app behavior, downloading songs in the background on iOS devices requires keeping the Spotify app open and the screen unlocked. Using the workaround of playing music in the background can help, but it is not a seamless solution like what is available on Android devices. Does listening to music enhance your focus while studying?
Just a heads up, if you buy something through our links, we may get a small share of the sale. It’s one of the ways we keep the lights on here. Click here for more. Music surrounds us. It can be a companion throughout the day – listening on the way to school or work, checking out a favorite artist with friends, hearing it live at concerts and sporting events, enjoying or enduring it in stores and restaurants, and then listening again in the evening to unwind. As meaningful and uplifting as music can be, it might also help you while studying, working on school projects and doing homework. As a clinical assistant professor of audiology, I can tell you the research shows that music can increase your focus and even motivate you. This connection depends somewhat on the individual. Some people need silence while doing homework. Human brains are limited in their ability to multitask, and some people are better at doing two things at once compared with others. The style of music, the activity you’re doing and the effort it takes to complete the work also matter. Some types of music work better than others Numerous studies have discovered how music can affect study and work habits: Listening to instrumental or familiar music in the background competes less with a study assignment than music with lyrics or unfamiliar music. Instrumental music also seems to interfere less with reading comprehension and assignments requiring verbal and visual memory than does music with lyrics. One study showed soft, fast music had a positive impact on learning, but loud and fast, loud and slow, and soft and slow hindered learning. Upbeat music with a higher tempo may help when you’re doing something requiring movement or motivation, such as exercising or cleaning your room. The more difficult your task is – for instance, memorizing material, problem-solving or learning something new – the more likely the music is distracting and people often need to turn it off. But before listening to your favorite sounds while studying, don’t miss an important detail: the volume. The damage begins early Whether listening through speakers, headphones or earbuds, too high a volume can damage your hearing. It’s known as noise-induced hearing loss, and it happens more often than you might think – those high-volume sounds can destroy tiny, delicate hair-like structures in the inner ear that help you hear. Inner-ear damage can occur from a single exposure to an extremely loud sound or from repeated exposure to loud sounds over months or years. While some parts of the ear can repair themselves, the inner ear cannot fix itself. Close to 1 in 5 Americans ages 12 to 19 – about 17% – demonstrate signs of noise-induced hearing changes in one or both ears, which could eventually lead to hearing loss. Volume, time, distance How dangerous a sound is to your hearing depends on three things: the volume of the sound, the length of time you listen, and how close you are to the sound. The approximate levels of many loud sounds. www.dangerousdecibels.org Sounds are measured in decibels, or dB, and the dBA scale reflects how the human ear hears sound. Typically, sounds at or below 70 decibels are safe for listening. Conversations generally register at about 60 dBA, city traffic at about 80 dBA. Sounds that may be harmful include lawn mowers, at roughly 95 dBA, rock concerts, at around 120 dBA, and fireworks, at about 140 dBA. The World Health Organization suggests a sound allowance for weekly exposure, based on loudness. For example, you could listen to a 75 dBA sound for 40 hours per week. But listen to something at 89 dBA and that time allowance is drastically reduced, to about an hour and a half. Signs you’ve been exposed to a dangerously loud sound include muffled hearing, ringing in the ears and difficulty having a conversation from 3 feet (1 meter) away. Although your hearing generally returns to normal after such an experience, there is a cost. This temporary shift in hearing could lead to permanent harm to inner-ear structures and ultimately damage your hearing. How to stay safe Technology not available even a few years ago can now alert you of a risky listening environment. A sound-level meter app measures the sound around you to determine whether it’s too loud. So can some smartwatches. If listening through speakers, the sound-level app can warn you if your tunes are creeping toward too loud. When wearing headphones or earbuds, keep it at or below 60% of the volume allowed by your device. One rule of thumb: If someone else can hear the sound emanating from your headphones or earbuds when they are an arm’s length away from you, the volume is too loud. Use high-quality, noise-canceling headphones or earbuds to hear the audio at a safer, lower level. Some headphones also have volume limitations. Use hearing protection, such as disposable earplugs or earmuffs, when you’re around loud sounds, such as concerts, fireworks or a lawn mower. You can also simply decrease listening time. Taking breaks lets you avoid overexposure. Follow these tips and you should be able to enjoy your favorite music, games and conversations for decades to come. Pay attention to what music helps your concentration rather than distracts you, and your schoolwork might benefit, too. We’d love to hear your thoughts! What type of music do you find most effective for studying or working? Have you ever experienced issues with loud music affecting your hearing? Share your experiences in the comments below. Google Pixel Watch 3 video teases upcoming watch face update
Just a heads up, if you buy something through our links, we may get a small share of the sale. It’s one of the ways we keep the lights on here. Click here for more. At this year’s Made by Google event in September, Google revealed the Pixel Watch 3 alongside the Pixel 9 series. The watch features a bigger, brighter display, integrated Fitbit fitness tools, and seamless interaction with Google’s suite of apps and services. In line with its tradition, Google released a stylish “design of” video showcasing the Pixel Watch 3. The video highlighted a refreshed version of the Concentric watch face, which displays more detailed information, such as battery level and heart rate—features absent from the current Concentric face design. Pixel Watch 3 could get an updated Concentric face Folks over at 9to5Google speculate that this updated layout might be a version of the Dial I face. The revamped design features four new complications, positioned between the minute and second rings.  The face adds the battery percentage and heart rate complications to two separate spots at the bottom of the watch face. Moreover, the VO2 Max, which isn’t currently available as a watch face complication, is the third complication of the face located at the top.  Image: Google Additionally, one of the complications shows two wavy lines accompanied by a number, which might represent the user’s breathing rate. Currently, the Pixel Watch only tracks breathing rate during sleep via its Health Metrics feature. The video also briefly showcases other familiar faces, such as Active, Field, and Track, which are already available on the Pixel Watch 3. We can only hope that this updated Concentric face will move beyond the prototype phase and be officially released by Google. So far, Google has only introduced new watch faces alongside major device launches, leaving it uncertain whether this updated face will arrive as an update to the current lineup. Meanwhile, Google is yet to roll out the 2024 watch faces for the Pixel Watch or Pixel Watch 2. What do you think about this teaser? Are you looking forward to the update, or planning on getting this watch? Hit us up in the comments, down below, or ping us on our Twitter or Facebook.

Xbox Cloud Gaming will finally let you stream your own damn games
Just a heads up, if you buy something through our links, we may get a small share of the sale. It’s one of the ways we keep the lights on here. Click here for more. The dream of streaming your own Xbox games to whatever device you want is finally coming true. After years of restrictions, Microsoft is expanding Xbox Cloud Gaming in November to let you stream games you actually own. No more library restrictions, no more relying on Microsoft’s curated cloud catalog. It’s your games, on your terms, wherever the hell you want them. This feature has been a long time coming. The developer behind the Better xCloud script already spotted Microsoft laying the groundwork for “stream your own games” in the Xbox Cloud Gaming code. It looks like Xbox Insiders will get to try it out first next month. But let’s be real: The real question is when the rest of us can get our hands on it. Right now, Xbox Cloud Gaming only lets you stream a limited selection of pre-decided titles through the Xbox app. But in November, the existing restrictions are getting lifted. You can stream any game you own to your phone, tablet, Amazon Fire TV stick, or whatever else has a screen and an internet connection. The Xbox Cloud Gaming beta already lets you stream games to your phone, tablet, or PC, but it’s been limited to their cloud library. This new update opens the floodgates. Imagine firing up Halo Infinite on your phone during your lunch break or playing Forza on your smart TV without needing an actual Xbox. This flexibility could make Xbox Cloud Gaming a serious contender in the cloud gaming wars. But here’s the thing: this isn’t just about Xbox. If you own Xbox games on Steam and have an account with the streaming service, you can already play those games in the cloud from anywhere. This update is about making your Xbox library more portable, more flexible, and more yours. And let’s not forget the Better xCloud script, which has been improving the Xbox Cloud Gaming experience for months. From bypassing region restrictions to enhancing performance and battery life, the Better xCloud community has been doing the work Microsoft should’ve done all along. This update is a long-overdue catch-up. So what does it mean? This means that Xbox is finally taking cloud gaming seriously. It means your Xbox library is about to get much more powerful. And it means the future of gaming is looking a lot more flexible, a lot more portable, and a lot more damn exciting. But what about the catch? Image: Xbox Okay, there’s always a catch. Right now, the details are still hazy. We don’t know what kind of internet connection you’ll need to stream your own games smoothly. We don’t know how the game saves will work. And we don’t know what kind of devices will be supported at launch. And let’s be real, Microsoft hasn’t covered itself in glory with the rollout of Xbox Cloud Gaming so far. The service has been buggy, the game selection has been limited, and the whole thing has felt like a half-hearted experiment. So there’s reason to be skeptical. But the potential here is huge. If Microsoft gets this right, it could change everything. Imagine accessing your entire Xbox library wherever and whenever you want. Imagine picking up a game on your phone where you left off on your Xbox or playing the latest releases on whatever device is handy. That’s the promise of cloud gaming. And if Xbox can deliver, it could make all the difference. So here’s to hoping. Here’s to Microsoft getting its shit together and giving us the cloud gaming experience we deserve. Because if it does, watch out. What are your thoughts on the upcoming expansion of Xbox Cloud Gaming? Are you excited about the ability to stream your own games on any device, or do you have concerns about the potential challenges? We’d love to hear from you!
